OUR STORIES

RI4SafeTech is a group of individuals who want to share what they've learned about the harm from radiofrequency and microwave radiation and how one may use technology more safely.

STEPHEN DAHL

I'm someone who experiences ill health effects from Wi-Fi and other wireless radiation.

"In 2009, I replaced Wi-Fi in my home with wired ethernet, just in case it might be healthier for my young children. In 2016, I began working at my public library and started getting many symptoms, including flushing, heart palpitations, brain fog, dyslexia, headaches, memory loss, irritability, and more. When I went home, I’d feel much better, except that now I had terrible insomnia even though I was so tired. At my wits end, I finally realized that what I thought was a smoke detector on the ceiling was the whole-library Wi-Fi access point, just ten feet from where I worked at the Circulation Desk. I could tell the difference between environments highly polluted with radiofrequency radiation (RFR) and those with less radiation, because of the effects on my body. The effects would build over time spent exposed to the radiation. After doing a deep dive into the topic, and after wrestling with the cognitive dissonance of some sources telling me it was no problem and just my imagination, I finally quit my job and began to recuperate. Now I know I get Electromagnetic Radiation-Syndrome (EMR-S) from exposure to what the telecom industry calls low levels of RFR and other electromagnetic fields (EMFs). I want to tell you about it, too. Because I know it harms children, the elderly, and those already ill. Because even if you can’t detect it, this invisible pollution may have long-term effects for us all, including those who do not feel acute symptoms, because it changes the chemistry of our cells. Additionally, there is evidence RFR harms trees, bees, wildlife, livestock, and pets as well. But there are solutions. Desiring positive change, I started Rhode Islanders for Safe Technology in 2019. I met others, like Sheila Resseger of 5G Free RI, and Jamie Orr, and we’ve teamed up to create our new group, RI4SafeTech. Join us to build a future with safer technology and better health!"

JAMIE ORR

I had to vacate my home because a small cell site was activated just outside my window.

"I was injured by the toxic, man-made, wireless electromagnetic radiation emitted from the antennas at the top of my utility pole. It irradiated my home 24/7 and 365 days a year.

According to the internationally recognized Building Biology Evaluation Guidelines, activation of the site by my home elevated the levels in my sleeping area to the highest category of Extreme Anomaly.

Readings went from 9.6 microwatts per meter squared to 9400 microwatts per meter squared on the Safe & Sound Pro Broadband RF Meter by Safe Living Technologies. The safe level for sleeping areas is 0.1 microwatts per meter squared.

Now I'm an advocate for safe technology."

SHEILA RESSEGER

I have been an advocate for those injured by EMFs and for the general public since 2020.

"I'm a retired teacher from the RI School for the Deaf. I retired in 2011. At that time, the teachers and students all used wired computers, and there were no cell phones in classrooms. Shortly after I retired I went to a workshop given by Theodora Scarato of the Environmental Health Trust. That was the first I knew about the harms of wireless radiation coming from cell phones and other wireless devices. I kept up with information about this, but did not become involved in advocacy for safe technology until early 2020. At that time I found out that so-called small cells were already being installed in Cranston. I met two other Cranston women who also were learning about this. We contacted our city officials, who knew nothing about it. The three of us started 5G Free RI.  I met Steve Dahl and Jamie Orr through our mutual goal of raising awareness about wireless harms and ways to mitigate them. Steve had been the Director of Rhode Islanders for Safe Technology. We decided to combine our groups and form RI4SafeTech, and I am the admin for the RI4SafeTech Facebook page. Through the RI4SafeTech website we hope to reach more people with the urgent message of the necessity of protecting ourselves, our children, and our environment from the harms of wireless infrastructure, starting with the 2025 rollout of Smart ("Advanced") Meters across RI. Thank you for visiting our website. Please contact us with questions, suggestions, and/or willingness to work with us to accomplish our goal."
